The same Whopper costs $5.89 in one part of Chicago and $9.19 in another
Two Burger King restaurants in Chicago, IL, selling the same Whopper from the same menu system, post prices $3.30 apart. Fast Food Index prices the complete menu at every restaurant it tracks, which makes gaps like this visible street by street.
$5.89 → $9.19
The Whopper at the Burger King on 11020 South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago costs $5.89. At the Burger King on 151 North Michigan Ave, the same sandwich costs $9.19 — 56% more. Neither store is a captive-audience location — no airport, no stadium, no rest stop — which is what makes the gap hard to explain away.
Why the same sandwich has two prices
Franchisees set their own prices, and most customers never see the spread because they only ever visit one store. Chicago has 44 Burger King restaurants with a priced Whopper; the typical one charges $6.19. The cheapest and most expensive sit at opposite ends of a $3.30 range inside one city.
Both prices checked November 3, 2026. See every Burger King price in the state on the Burger King menu prices page, or browse the price map.

How this was computed. Prices are the current price state: each store's price as read from the chain's own ordering system, refreshed weekly. A store's price counts only inside a sanity band around the item's national typical (half to 1.75 times), which drops placeholder and mis-listed prices no customer could actually pay. One price point was excluded before ranking: a $3.99 Whopper reading that appears at 262 stores, 261 of them priced in a single day's collection (November 4, 2026) — the signature of a collection artifact, not a price anyone could pay. It is excluded above, and disclosed here. The Burger King at 11020 South Kedzie Avenue and the one at 151 North Michigan Ave were checked on November 3, 2026.
